Featured Beauty Blogger: Sarah N.

While Sarah is new to blogging, she's certainly not new to the beautiful world of makeup.
Be sure to check out her beauty blog: Here!

How did you get started wearing makeup?
I originally started wearing makeup when I was about 7. I remember receiving a vanity from Santa one Christmas, and it was filled with Lip Smackers, Glitter, and many child makeup kits. I loved to play dress up, so all of these things came in handy. By the time I was in middle school I had moved on to Almay brand blush and brown mascara and thought of myself to be very grown up and sophisticated.
It wasn't until my freshman year of high school that I really started experimenting and seeing makeup as more of a form of art, than just something to make you feel and look pretty. I gradually became obsessed with makeup tutorials on Youtube and taught myself most of the tricks I know now. I bought lots of books, (some of my favorites are by Kevin Aucoin and Bobbi Brown.) Then after I graduated high school, I decided I really wanted to pursue makeup as a career, so I began to build up my professional kit.
I went to a Kandee Johnson "Glaminar" in Miami, that was marketed as a seminar for people who want to be makeup artists.  From there I took classes through Last Looks Makeup Academy, and now I'm a free-lance makeup artist.
Name one of the first makeup products you remember using, when you first started wearing makeup.
I already mentioned my lip smackers and glitter, so I guess I'll talk about the a product that I used when I first started wearing "adult" makeup. I loved Maybelline Great Lash mascara more than anything else!
Oh no! Your makeup collection is sinking underwater, and you can only save 5 items! What would you save?
First of all, OH MY GOD! Second of all, This question is just evil! Okay hmm. This is really hard for me. I guess I'll have to go with my Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation, since I just bought it today, and would really like to use it at least once before it sinks underwater; my MAC Studio Sculpt concealer because it covers imperfections like nobody's business; my Sephora Long Last Liquid Eyeliner in Black; my L'Oreal Telescopic mascara in Carbon Black; and lastly I'd have to go with my Bare Minerals blush in Fruit Cocktail.
Oh no! Your luggage was lost, and your makeup was in it! What would you purchase to get you through your trip?
These questions are making me really paranoid! haha. I've actually had my luggage lost many times.  One time the airline workers even stole $300 in makeup from Sephora from my bag (I actually cried.) But to answer your question, I would purchase a foundation (either Estee Lauder Double Wear or NARS Sheer Glow), MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer, MAC Brow Pencil in Lingering, L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara, and a liquid liner of some form. For skin care: I would buy Yes To Carrots Nourishing face kit because it has everything I would need in it.
You just woke up, and you're an hour late for work! You only have time to apply ONE makeup item; what would you choose?
Definitely foundation. I need to have polished skin more than anything else.
Name any items in your makeup collection you've repurchased more than one time.
MAC Studio Sculpt concealer, L'Oreal Telescopic mascara in Carbon Black, Sephora long last liquid liner in black, Benefit Hoola, Urban Decay Primer Potion, Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, MAC lipsticks in Lady Bug and Angel, MAC Well Dressed blush...
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
What kind of looks do you prefer to do on yourself? Your clients?
On myself, I'll almost always do some form of cat eye; it's just my signature look, I suppose. I'm really loving 'barely there' makeup at the moment, too.
For clients, I'll do whatever looks nice on them. Everyone is different and some looks that will looks amazing on others, won't do another person justice. I do find that cat eyes look nice on almost every person, though. Classic makeup is probably the most flattering. Brown smokey eyes are lovely, too.
What's one makeup trend you hate?

I really really really hate "jizz lips." I can't think of any nicer way of putting it. haha. You know when girls (typically the skanky type) wear 'nude' lipcolors but it just ends up lighter than their skin tone and the goopey gloss over the top just makes it look not flattering whatsoever.
I also hate the orange look. People think bronzer fixes everything nowadays, well, it doesn't. I'm the palest person I know and you couldn't pay me a million bucks to go lay out and get skin cancer or spray tan myself until I'm orange.
Here's Sarah with a glowing, natural look she did on herself.
Here's Sarah with a super glam look, she also did herself.
Lastly, here's a look Sarah did on the lovely Mary Alice.

I met Sarah through my blog, and I encourage you to follower her blog. Not only did she teach herself tips and tricks, but she also has credentials under her brush belt!

Urban Decay Black Friday Sale

My friend Amanda has the BOS IV, and loves it. $44 is a great deal! You get 6 UD eyeshadows, plus 10 new UD eyeshadows. A FULL SIZE 24/7 liquid liner in Perversion ($18 by itself), a travel size eyeshadow Primer Potion ($9), and a travel size Super Curling Mascara. You also get a speaker for your smartphone (or ipod/mp3 player), a usb cord (I'm not exactly sure what you do with the USB cord!) and you can download 5 videos that create looks with the palette. And since each shadow retails for $17, and you get 16 of them, you're really getting a good deal.
I think this packaging is very bulky-it's gorgeous too, but may not be good for traveling.
You have to spend $50 to get free shipping- so you only need $6 in your cart, if you purchase this. BUT they do have sales tax on the website.
I really want to try their liquid eyeliner...but I was SO holding out for a sale to get the Naked Palette, so I think I'm going to pass on this one...that 24/7 liner is calling to me though!
Here's the link to check the palette out for yourself:

Urban Decay 15 Year Anniversary Palette Looks Part 2!

For all of these looks, I used my Urban Decay 15 year Anniversary Palette. I also used NYC Sky Rise Lengthening Mascara in Extreme Black, and the ELF Essentials Eyelid Primer in Sheer. I used Milani Liquif'eye Metallic Eyeliner Pencil in Black for all 3 looks, but used it differently, and will explain in the descriptions.
Neutral Look:
With the 15 Year palette, I applied Chase all over the lid. Applied Deeper on the outer third of the lid and in crease. Then applied M.I.A. in the outer V, and Black Out in the outer V. I used Midnight 15 as my highlight. Then, I used Milani Liquif'eye Metallic Eye Pencil in Black on my upper lashline, and topped it with the shade Black Out, also from the 15 year palette.

ELF Studio Blush Swatches- All of them!

You can find these blushes on Eyeslipsface.com or Target. They retail for $3 each. I did not buy all of these at one time, and many of them, I got for 50% off.
These blushes were a great way to expand my blush collection and try new shades. Before I discovered ELF blushes, I only had one blush at a time in my collection.
Some of these are very pigmented, while others are sheer. There is a good mix of matte, shimmer, and glitter. My favorite ones are the ones with golden shimmer- they're really flattering on my skintone.
Pink Passion A matte neon bubblegum pink. Incredibly pigmented.
Tickled Pink A sheer matte nude pink.
Mellow Mauve A matte mauve
Berry Merry A berry shimmer with golden sheen.
Candid Coral A shimmer coral with golden sheen. Sheer but buildable.
Gotta Glow A butter cream highlight with golden shimmer. (I had to repress mine.)
Twinkle Pink A coral pink with chunky gold glitter.
Peachy Keen A dusty peachy shade with golden shimmer. Sheer but buildable.
Giddy Gold A shimmer packed bright gold.
Blushing Rose Very similar to Berry Merry, but with more of a rose tone, instead of berry. Golden shimmer.
Fuchsia Fusion A neon purple based fuchsia with chunky silver and gold glitter.

My First Gradient Manicure

I bought some cosmetic sponges to try gradient manicures, and it was a lot harder than I expected! I have two quick dry top coats- Seche Vite, and Out The Door, and both of them make my nail polish peel off in sheets in about 3 days.  So, unfortunately this didn't last as long as I would have liked! :( I just picked up a non-quick dry top coat, and hopefully that'll make my mani's last longer. But with this many coats of polish, a quick dry top coat was a must!

I used:
1 coat Nail Life Gripper base coat
3 coats Revlon Blue Lagoon

Then I sponged on Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet,
then OPI Mermaid's Tears,
then Wet and Wild Fast Dry Teal of Fortune.

There wasn't enough glitter at the tips for me, so I added 1 coat of Revlon Blue Mosaic.
Then I realized the gradient wasn't smooth enough, so I added one coat of Wet and Wild Fast Dry Blue Wants To Be A Millionaire to the whole nail.
Then topped it off with 1 coat of Out The Door top coat.

I might try this again soon, because I loved the look, but it was a lot harder than I thought! The sponging wasn't hard, but getting it even was hard.
(I'm not so good with nail art! lol)

I recently ordered 2 NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils from Amazon, one in Milk, and on in Black Bean- I'm excited for them! I can't find NYX anywhere around here!

BUT GUESS WHAT?! ONLY ONE MORE FOLLOWER UNTIL I HOST A GIVEAWAY.
I'm so excited! Are you my last follower?!
I'm not sure what I'm going to include in my giveaway, but I should probably get on that!
I was thinking about a few drugstore items I consider staples, a few ELF items, and maybe some nail polish- I can't wait!

Venus ProSkin Razor Review

I received this razor in my October Cosmo Vox Box from Influenster, complimentary for me to test through their Vox Box program. Click the link for more information on Influenster.
I purchased this item sometime over the summer at Target, before I even knew of Influenster. I have always used Venus razors, so when they come out with a new one, I usually pick it up. I like Venus razors over other razors for numerous reasons:
*I have a tendency to cut my legs whenever I use a new razor for the first time. I do this less with Venus razors.
*I like the handle shape a lot, and I like how all of the replacement cartridges are interchangeable with the handle.
*The razor blades don't have the little wire guards on them, that causes all of the hair to get stuck inside the blades- I hate that!

What I don't like about Venus razors:
*I usually just repurchase a single razor at a time, because I feel like the replacement cartridges are a lot of money to spend on a razor at one time.
*I don't really care for the disposable razors- but that goes with any razor brand I've tried.

What they say:
Venus ProSkin MoistureRich Razor has shave gel bars enhanced with a triple blend of body butters, which create a layer of protection for your skin with every stroke. Plus, it features the trusted Venus three-blade technology for an ultra-close shave; our rounded, pivoting head for those hard-to-reach places; and an ergonomic handle for great control in wet, soapy environments.

What I say: The shave gel bars are very convenient, and I like that. I can just reach for my razor and shave, no step in between. I am less prone to cut myself with these, as the bars do provide adequate protection. I wish the shave gel bars lasted longer though. When the shave gel bars start to wear down, it does wear unevenly, so at that point I start using shaving cream with them. My favorite Venus Razor is the Embrace one with 5 blades, but this one comes in second. I like how I can use this very quickly to shave if I'm not in the shower- which came in handy during the summer. I do think the pivoting head of the Venus razors help get hard to reach places, better than other brands I've tried- the especially goes for the knee area.

You can find more information and reviews Here, or on Gillette's wesbite Here.

My Urban Decay 15 Year Anniversary Palette came!

My first high end purchase was a success. I am in LOVE with the 15 year palette! It's the perfect blend of neutrals, brights, and darks. Worth the money? I'm not completely sure yet- but I will be getting a ton of use out of it!
I hear it's already sold out on Sephora- so if you want this palette, get it while you can!

The first look I did with it, can easily be recreated with the Wet and Wild Blue Had Me At Hello, as the main shadow colors are similar to colors in that palette.
The shimmery teal, the matte black, and the shimmery navy- in UD terms, I used Deep End, Black Out, and Evidence.
I also used Vanilla as a browbone highlight- but you can use ELF Studio Blush in Gotta Glow or NARS Highlighter in Albatross.
Here's what I use to create the whole look:
Revlon Colorstay Normal/Dry Skin 180 Sand Beige
LA Colors Mystic Concealer/Foundation Stick in Beige
Revlon Colorstay Aqua Minerals Finishing Powder in Translucent Light
ELF Studio Blush in Peachy Keen
ELF Essentials Eyelid Primer in Pearl
ELF Studio Cream Eyeliner in Teal Tease as an eyeshadow base
UD Deep End, Evidence, Black Out, Vanilla Eyeshadows
UD 24/7 Pencil Liner in Oil Slick on upper lashline
Wet and Wild Color Icon Shimmer Pencil in Blue on lower lashline
NYC Sky Rise Mascara in Extreme Black
Jemma Kidd Hydrating Gloss Stick in Bridgetown on lips

The second look I did- Was when I decided to go to a vintage car and bike show with my boyfriend. There was a pin up contest, but we left before it started.
Here's the look I did with the palette.
I used Chase all over the lid, Deeper on the outer third of the lid, M.I.A. in the crease and outer V, and Black Out in the outer V. I also added Deeper under the lashline.
(The flash was a little bright, so excuse that. lol)

Good news- Only TWO more blog followers left until I host a GIVEAWAYYY!
(Can you sense my excitement? lol)

FOTD feat. Wet and Wild Comfort Zone pt. 2

On Wednesdays, I don't have to go to work until 3:30 pm, so unlike the rest of my shifts, I have a lot of time to do my make up before going to work. On these days I don't use a long wearing foundation, and I like to try different products that I don't use often, that I don't like, or that I don't really know how to use. Today I did a look using the Wet and Wild Comfort Zone palette again.
To see my review and swatches of it, Click Here. To see the first look I created, Click Here.

I used ProActive this morning, so I applied Banana Boat 30 SPF Sunwear Faces, and then my St. Ives Timeless skin moisturizer.

Face products used:
Rimmel Clean Finish Foundation in Warm Ivory
(I use this on days that I don't need a long-wearing foundation.)
LA Colors Mystic Concealer/Foundation Stick in Beige
(This is my favorite concealer ever! I use it on blemishes and under eye circles. It costs $1.50 at The Dollar General!)
ELF Essentials Shimmering Facial Whip in Citrus
(I never know how to use this, and never reach for it.)
Revlon Colorstay Aqua Minerals Finishing Powder in Translucent Light
(I have very dry skin, and this powder looks the best out of all the powders I've ever tried. I may continue buying this powder for a very long time. I seriously love this stuff.)
ELF Essentials Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder in Sunkissed
(This is one of my favorite ELF products-I'm almost completely finished with it!)
ELF Studio Blush and Bronzer Contour Duo
(I only used the bronzer side, but my blush side is almost gone also!)
ELF Studio Blush in Giddy Gold and Pink Passion
(I never know how to use Giddy Gold, so I tapped my brush into Giddy Gold first, and then Pink Passion. Both are so highly pigmented that it was enough for both cheeks. It left me with a beautiful golden pink glow. Loved it!)
ELF Studio Brow Kit in Dark
(I only used the gel side- I love this stuff! Best brow product!)

Eyes:
ELF Essentials Eyelid Primer in Pearl
(I'm almost finished with this too.)
ELF Essentials Shimmering Eyeliner Pencil in Iconic Ivory
(I never use this. I tried to apply it all over the lid for a white base, but it didn't work as well as I hoped.)
Wet and Wild Comfort Zone Eyeshadow Palette:
Top right shade all over lid.
Second right shade on outer v and crease.
Third right shade in outer v and lower lashline.
Top left shade as browbone highlight.
NYC Liquid Eyeliner in Pearlized Black
(Top lashline- I picked this up at The Dollar Tree for $1 yesterday.)
Wet and Wild Color Icon Eyeliner Pencil in Black Black
(On waterline.)
NYC Sky Rise Lengthening Mascara in Extreme Black
(Currently my favorite mascara- and it's $1.72 at Walmart!)

Lips:
Chapstick
ELF Essentials Hypershine Lipgloss in Honey

I love days where I use a ton of products, because  I actually feel like I'm using up the makeup that sits unused in my collection.  Plus, it's always fun to experiment with and "re-shop" your own collection.

Wet and Wild 8 pan Eyeshadow Palette- Comfort Zone

Can I start out by saying, if you don't own this yet- you need it!
It's so versatile and was a great addition to my eyeshadow collection.
I got this on sale for $3-regularly $5 at Walgreens. Wet and Wild is still on sale BOGO 50% off, plus $1 off any item over $1.99, until November 19th.
I kept seeing gurus and girls on blogs rave about this palette, but in person it didn't interest me at all...until I saw swatches online. Why didn't I get this sooner?!
This has the best pigmentation, blendability, minimal fall out, buttery smooth texture- are you getting my point?! Plus you get 8 full size eyeshadows for $5.
I'll be referring to these from top left down, and top right down, numbered 1-8.
I also picked up the Petal Pusher palette, and it doesn't compare to this one.
I only loved the left side of that palette, but I love all of this palette!
1- This is my ideal browbone color: a yellow based cream. However this one was on the frosty side, to where it kind of emphasized any fine lines I might have under my brow bone. Applied lightly though, this isn't an issue at all.  This makes a great inner eye color- it really glows.
2- This has to be a dupe for an Urban Decay shadow! I swear I've seen this before. It's a light peachy copper. It is SO pigmented and smooth! This color would look good on every skintone.
3- I think the first two shades, along with the third one, makes the warmer counterpart to the Wet and Wild Color Icon Trio Sweet As Candy. It makes a great shimmery neutral eye look. This color, I feel like is an UD dupe also. Smog, perhaps? It's a warm shimmery bronze shade, that is very pigmented.
4- This shade is also in the Wet and Wild Color Icon Trio I'm Getting Sunburned.  This shade in my trio busted, and stained a chair, a blanket, and my carpet- that's how pigmented this is. This is one of those shades where you tap the brush ever-so-gently and you have enough shadow to cover your whole lid. It's a dark, smoky, plum/reddish brown. It's similar to a shade in the Petal Pusher palette, but it's not as purple as that one. Apparently this is dupe to MAC Beauty Marked.
5- This is an unexpected favorite of mine. I normally don't love shades like this, but this one is done so well! It's a green tinged silver. It's so pigmented and smooth. It has such a beautiful sheen to it, and is really complex. I don't think I'd wear this on my brow bone, but I would for sure wear it all over the lid.
6- This is such a pretty shimmery sage green with golden undertones. Again- applies effortlessly and is amazingly pigmented.
7- Again, another unexpected favorite! I don't usually go for green eyeshadow- which I think is why I kept putting off buying this palette. But these greens are so gorgeous! They don't scream green- they're like neutral greens. This color is like a muddy olive green with lighter green shimmer. This makes such a great crease color, it's not even funny. So pigmented, blends well- amazing. It reminds me of city lights glowing in the reflection of swamp water- if that makes any sense.
8- This is one of the most unique shade in the palette. It's a reddish brown base that flashes a teal duochrome that glows when the light hits it. It's so amazing. Apparently it's a dupe for MAC Club. (I say apparently, because this is what I've heard online- I don't own any MAC myself.) I wore this as an all over lid color yesterday and boyfriend said it was really cool.
( I paired it with #7 in the crease, and # 1 as my highlight.)

If you don't love glitter or shimmer- this palette isn't for you, as it doesn't contain any mattes.
I have to say though, this may be one of the best drugstore palettes available, as far as quality, price, blendability, unique shade selection, and completely wearable neutrals.
I highly recommend this palette.
I had to use multiple swipes for the swatches on Petal Pusher's review- but each of these swatches are only ONE swipe. I hope you get just how pigmented these actually are!
There isn't one shade in this palette that I dislike. They are all amazing. Do you see that duochrome on the last shade?! So awesome! I am in love with this palette and am so glad I finally purchased it.
It's much more amazing swatched, then it looks in the pan.

Wet and Wild 8 Pan Eyeshadow Palette- Petal Pusher

I picked up two of these 8 pan eyeshadow palettes from Walgreens for $3 each on sale. These never interested me much in person, but after seeing so many online swatches, I really wanted these. I picked up Comfort Zone- which I actually enjoy a lot more than Petal Pusher. The pigmentation is better in Comfort Zone, and there is a lot less fall out.
I'll be talking about these in order from top left down, then top right down, numbered 1-8.
1- This is a shimmery white frost shade, with a pinkish purple duochrome. The duochrome is very slight, unless applied heavily. This shade isn't as chalky as I expected it to be, but it on the sheer side. It does make a nice browbone color though.
2- This is a shimmery light purple/lilac frost, with a metallic sheen. It's one of the least pigmented shades.

FOTD with Wet and Wild Comfort Zone

I recently picked up Wet and Wild's 8 pan eyeshadow palette in "Comfort Zone." It never appealed to me in person, but after seeing so many swatches online, I knew I had to have this! I also picked up the 8 pan "Petal Pusher."

Here's what I used for my look:
Face: Revlon Colorstay Normal/ Dry Skin 180 Sand Beige
LA Colors Mystic Concealer/Foundation Stick Beige
Revlon Colorstay Aqua Minerals Finishing Powder Translucent Light
Elf Essentials Healthy Radiance Blush Glow

Eyes: ELF Essentials Eye Primer Pearl
Wet and Wild 8 pan "Comfort Zone": Bottom right shade all over the lid and on lower lashline. (This shade is a dupe for Mac Club. It is a reddish brown base that flashes a teal duochrome.)
Shade above that in crease.
Top left shade on brow bone.
NYC Liquid Liner Pearlized Black
NYC Sky Rise Lengthening Mascara Extreme Black

Lips: ELF Essentials Hypershine Gloss Honey

I hope I captured the duochrome in the eyeshadow pictures.
All of this makeup was applied 10 hours before these pictures were taken! I reapplied lipgloss, but no other touch ups for 10 hours!

Revlon Scented Nail Polish - Beach

Sadly, this is the only picture I captured of this mani. It was my first time using Seche Vite, and it made this mani peel off in sheets a lot sooner than I expected.
Anyway, I got this polish on sale at Rite Aid, for 40% off. I picked this color up because it was identical to the polish I got my nails painted with, the very first time I ever got acrylics- and multiple times after that. The polish was by the brand Jade, called "Never Without You." I think it's been discontinued, because the only place I've seen this is on ebay.
It's a yellow green, but metallic. This formula was no so great though.
I used a unnamed LA Colors White polish as a base, and used 3 coats of Revlon Beach. At two coats, it was very streaky and the white base was still visible.  On my index finger, I didn't apply a white base coat, and had to use 5 coats to get it to match the other nails.
The white I used was pretty sheer, so this would probably be best used over an opaque white.

My First Influenster.com Vox Box

After signing up for Influenster.com, I filled out as many, "badges" as I could, and then sort of forgot about it. About a month later, I got an email saying I was selected to get the October Cosmo Vox Box. I was so excited! They said the box would contain, a razor, an acne system, and a body wash.
I got a lot more than I expected- but can I just say last month's box contained WEN?! I want to try that so badly!
I got three full size products (5 if you count the proactive items individually.)

Once you get your box, you're required to check it in on the website, give the products a test run, and then fill out a mandatory survey.

Did You Get A Fake Naked Palette From Ebay?

If you've read a few of my past blog posts, you'll know that I was bidding on an Urban Decay Naked Palette on Ebay for 5 days. I was trying to save a few dollars, because this girl's bills are ridiculous. Well, after winning the auction, I started to wonder if I had gotten a Faked Palette instead. So, I started doing research, and to my surprise, the only video/blogpost I found out there comparing the real one to the fake, was this one:

After watching this, I started to get really worried. At first I thought that it was too early to have counterfeit Naked palettes floating around! Well, my suspicions were correct. The palette arrived, Posh pulled it out of the box, and said some bad words...it WAS fake. If I hadn't seen that video, I might not have known it was fake. You see, all of the feedback from the seller was 100% positive and everyone raved over the Naked Palettes the seller had previously sold.
How did all of these girls not realize it was fake?! This is my intentions: to help those of you out there who have gotten a fake, and to warn those of you who are thinking about buying one on ebay.
